For more than a century, Jews have been accused by anti Semites and conspiracy theorists of controlling the Press, the Banks and even Governments. Although some people will still believe that, there is a much bigger problem now.
There has been mounting evidence, particularly over the past 20 years or so, that many Western newspaper journalists, supposedly independent News Agencies and Television stations have a systematic antipathy to Israel, to the extent that their output is almost wholly negative when it comes to reporting about the State.
Context and history are usually absent from their reporting so that the uninformed viewer listener or reader receives a totally skewed idea of the complex and dangerous situations with which Israel has to deal, day in day out.
The ZZC works closely with orgaisations that monitor Press Television and Radio (“the Media”) output in relation to Israel and Jews in the Diaspora. The aim is to hold the Media to account when it disseminates falsehoods and half truths. Retractions and explanations are demanded where there is clear evidence of abuse of their position. There has been significant success in that endeavour. It is an uphill task, such is the extent of the problem, but it is one which is very worthwhile.
As many people of goodwill as possible are needed to hold the Media to account by reporting to ZCC biased material which should be challenged. We can made representations and also liaise with other organisations who specialise in monitoring Unfair Media output.
