Israel, as a pluralist democracy accepts criticism and believes in free speech. It is right that Israel ought to be held to account, much as Britain, France or Canada should, but critics do not call for Canada or Italy to cease to exist. Israel alone faces that.
Israel is the only Jewish State in the World and is the Homeland where Jews may determine their own future. A Jewish State means that sadly many Anti Zionists are, first and foremost Anti Semites. These Anti Semites will attack Israel for no other reason than their hatred of Jews and not because they have any interest on the Palestinians. These individuals hold Israel to entirely different standards and fail to criticise extremely oppressive regimes; reserving all their energies for Israel, the Jew amongst nations.
At the same time Palestinian supporters groups also recognise that Israel is a Jewish state but make it quite clear that they support the objective of “destroying Israel from the river to the sea” which is their standard way of expressing their desire to not only Israel withdraw from the West Bank and Gaza but to see the whole of Israel destroyed.
Many of Israel’s detractors resort to unfounded conspiracy theories to support their position, referring to Zionist and/or Jewish control of media, banking and politics; similar libels have preceded pogroms and the Holocaust over two thousand years.
Although the ZCC is primarily concerned with promoting and defending the democratic state of Israel it recognises that it cannot ignore Anti Semitism.
