Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East and even beyond the boundaries of this region many countries are still not democracies such as China and Russia and many smaller countries around the world. Some of these countries claim to be democracies but we know that they do not have free elections.
Israel has free elections for all of its citizens whatever their race, ethnicity, religion, gender or sexuality and many of these groups have their own representatives inside Israel’s parliament.
Democracy means that every citizen is fairly represented and everyone has their own opportunity to be elected and to represent their fellow citizens in shaping the laws and future of their country.
Without democracy leaders become dictators and inevitably dictators become corrupt because they have to continually pay enough citizens to keep them in power and to not usurp their power for themselves.
