The Zionist Central Council was founded in 1929. For many years it was the umbrella organisation of the many Zionist groups, with regular meetings and liaising with the youth movements.
The ZCC ran a very wide programme of activities for many years, including running Yom Ha’Atzmaut and Yom Yerushalayim events. It is closely linked to the Zionist Federation.
It was the owner of Mamlock House but eventually it handed over the ownership to the the UJIA because it became unable able to meet the rising costs. The ZCC was granted the recognition of the special relationship and free link with Mamlock House.
When Mamlock House was unexpectedly closed, the links which made it the centre of Zionist activity were weakened, and there was a difficult period, as the various organisations moved to separate addresses.
The ZCC moved into the Bnei Akiva bayit, and gradually other organisations moved in there and some of the money from the sale of Mamock House was used to refurbish the Bayit, and start to make it the centre of Zionist activities.
There has been a wide ZCC programme of lobbying against boycotts of Israel,and extensive media response activity.
There has been a long list of presidents and recently new joint chairmen Daniel Berke and Oliver Gardner were elected and are planning a strong future for the organisation.
